Masjidly (“we,” “us,” “the App”) helps you find your local masjid's prayer times, updates, events, and community features. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. We've tried to keep this in plain language rather than boilerplate.
1. Information we collect
- Masjid selection. When you choose a masjid to follow, we store which masjid you've selected in a cookie on your device. We do not know who you are — this is tied to your browser, not your identity.
- Channel memberships. If you join a chat channel with a join code, we remember which channels you've joined, the same way.
- Admin access. If you administer a masjid's page, your session is authenticated by a passcode specific to that masjid. We don't collect a name, email, or personal identifier to grant admin access.
- Jummah Stall listings. If you submit a stall listing, we store whatever you enter (item name, description, category, price, contact details). Once approved by the masjid's admin, this becomes publicly visible to other app users — don't include anything you don't want shared publicly.
- Reports. If you report a stall listing, we store the reason you pick and any note you add, and show them to that masjid's admin. A report is not linked to your identity. The listings you've reported are remembered on your device so they stay hidden for you.
- Location. The “Nearby” and marketplace distance features ask your browser for your device's location to calculate distance to masjids and listings. This happens on your device and is never stored or sent to us.
- Notifications. If you turn on notifications, your device gives us a push address and we store it with the masjid you follow and the reminders you picked, so we can send prayer and update alerts. Turning notifications off deletes it.
- Theme preference. Your color scheme choice is stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and never leaves your device.
We do not require or collect your name, email address, phone number, or any account credentials. There is no user account system — Masjidly does not know who you are.
2. Masjid and listing data
Prayer times, addresses, and announcements shown for each masjid come from that masjid's own public website or from information entered by that masjid's admin. This is organizational information, not personal data about you.
3. Third-party services
Masjidly displays content from a few outside services, each with its own privacy practices:
- Qur'an text and translation — quran.com
- Du'a content — ummahapi.com
- Maps — OpenStreetMap
Your device may request this content directly; please review those services' own privacy policies.
4. Cookies
We use a small number of functional cookies (described above) to remember your masjid selection and channel memberships. We do not use these for advertising, and we don't use third-party analytics or ad-tracking cookies.
5. Data sharing
We do not sell your information or share it with advertisers. Contact information you submit in a stall listing is visible to other app users as part of that public listing — it's a public post, not data shared with us privately.
6. Data retention and removal
Cookie-based session data stays on your device for up to a year or until you clear your browser's cookies. If you administer a masjid and want information corrected or removed, or if you represent a masjid listed on Masjidly that you weren't previously aware of, contact us and we'll address it promptly.
7. Children
Masjidly is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect information from children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the App changes. The date above reflects the most recent revision.
